If you want to have new ideas you need to go somewhere ideas can find you. When I was young I used to go on holiday to English seaside towns like Southport and Broadstairs. Dotted along the promenades and piers were benches containing pensioners looking silently out to sea. They were there in all weathers. But even on cloudless days I couldn’t see what they were looking at. Then one day it hit me. I suddenly realized that they were looking at their own mortality in the distance and it was a clear and uninterrupted view.
